FAQs
The answers to some commonly asked questions
Are you certified to fly a drone?
Yes, I hold the A2 Certificate of Competence issued by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). I am also registered with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to operate drones in Europe.
Are you insured?
Yes, I have public liability cover of £5 million which complies with regulation (EC) 785/2004 for commercial usage.
Can you fly a drone in London and other built-up areas?
Yes, I am certified to fly a drone in built-up areas including much of London. There are a few areas where drone flights are not permitted without specific approval (Restricted Flying Zones). If you require drone photos from within one of these areas please get in touch to discuss the process for requesting approval.
How high and far away can your drone fly?
CAA regulations permit a drone to fly up to 120 metres (400 feet) above the ground. In the vast majority of cases it won't be necessary to go this high as usually the best images are taken much lower.

These same regulations require the drone to be in visual sight of the operator at all times, which limits the distance it can be flown. In ideal conditions this can be up to 500 metres.
What is the resolution of the photos or video footage that you can take?
This depends on the type of drone used. For flights near to uninvolved people a small drone will be used that is legal for such flights. This produces either 12MP photos or 4k video.

For other flights, a larger drone can be used - this produces 20 MP photos or 4k video.
Can you take both photos and video at the same time?
Absolutely - the drone can switch between stills and video at the click of a button, so it is very easy to take both photos and video footage during the same flight.
